February 23, 2025 03:00 PM until February 23, 2025 04:30 PM
Join us this month for Pinot Noir Reimagined, a journey through four exceptional wines that showcase the many different sides of the world of Pinot Noir.
Let’s take a journey through the many faces of the Pinot Noir grape. Each of these wines comes from family-owned estates and offers a unique perspective on what this noble grape can express. Known as one of the truly great grapes of the wine world, Pinot Noir has a captivating range, and this lineup beautifully showcases its versatility.
We’ll start with a Pétillant Naturel from The Hilt Estate in Santa Barbara, California—a sparkling, fizzy, and refreshing take on Pinot Noir. Then, we’ll explore two still reds: one from standout California producer Fred Scherrer, featuring 14 years of bottle age, and another from Bodega Chacra in Patagonia, crafted by the family behind Sassicaia. Finally, we’ll finish with an unexpected delight from Cavallotto, a renowned producer in Piedmont, Italy, who took a few rows of Pinot Noir from their estate vineyard and vinified the grape into a white wine. How cool is that?
Join us for this exciting tasting as we explore the incredible diversity of Pinot Noir and take this journey together!
The Hilt Pinot Noir Pétillant Naturel
The Hilt Estate is renowned for producing some of the finest Pinot Noir in Santa Barbara’s cool climate. With this Pétillant Naturel, they take a playful and refreshing approach to the grape. Crafted in a natural, unpretentious style, this fizzy, thirst-quenching sparkling wine is designed for pure enjoyment.
With titillating bubbles and a lively, refreshing palate, it’s perfect for warm-weather sipping or casual gatherings. Pét Nats aren’t about being serious—they’re meant to be chilled, guzzled, and thoroughly enjoyed. Thoughtful and intentional, this wine is simplicity at its most delicious.
2014 Scherrer Winery 'Russian River Valley' Pinot Noir
Fred Scherrer crafts some of California's finest wines, and this Pinot Noir is a testament to his artistry. Grown primarily in sandy Goldridge soils, the wine offers a balance of vibrant red fruit and a mineral-driven backbone. Bottled without fining or filtration, it combines a classic structure with a poetic elegance that evolves beautifully with every sip. This wine reflects a deep respect for tradition and is sure to age gracefully for years to come.
Chacra Pinot Noir 'Cincuenta y Cinco' Patagonia
Wine lovers, take note: this is a truly unique Pinot Noir from the Río Negro Valley, located in the northern Patagonia desert of central Argentina. Nestled between the Neuquén and Limay Rivers, which flow from the Andes to the Atlantic, the vineyards benefit from ancient riverbed soils of sand, clay, and limestone, along with pollution-free air and exceptional luminosity. Crafted by the family behind Sassicaia, this bottling draws from three vineyards planted in riverbed and sea-pebble soils. This is Pinot Noir from a whole new perspective—elegant, complex, and worthy of a place on any table.
Cavallotto 'Pinner' Langhe Bianco
From one of Barolo's most iconic traditional producers comes an unexpected and fascinating wine. The Cavallotto family, renowned for their elegant, savory Barolos, found a parcel of Pinot Noir in their vineyard acquisitions in 1989—over 50-year-old vines in the heart of Piedmont. Rather than crafting a red wine, which would challenge their heritage of typicity and tradition, they vinified it as a white wine, completely without skin contact. This is Pinot Noir from a special piece of land, offering a unique perspective that evokes the finesse of still Champagne or white Burgundy. A rare and remarkable wine that showcases the Cavallotto family's dedication to tradition while embracing creative innovation.
